As a SolidWorks administrator I encounter a number of questions regarding SolidWorks that I plan to pass on to the users of SolidWorks Geeks. Recently my company rolled out SolidWorks 2008 to our users and I was expecting a huge number of questions regarding the CommandManager, Instant 3D or even the overall interface. To my surprise, within 48 hours I received a number of complaints regarding the paper background of drawings. For some reason this new look of drawings really bothered a number of our users and I was flooded with request on how to remove the image from the background.

If you have explored the System Options you may find that there is no option for removing the image. I am not quite sure as to why SolidWorks decided to add the image and not allow for the average to change the display of the image. There is a simple fix; however, that takes less then a minute.

First, shut down SolidWorks then go to c:\program files\SolidWorks\data\Images\Drawings in explorer.

Change to extension of sheetbackground1.bmp to sheetbackgound1.bak. Then start SolidWorks again and the image will be gone from the drawing.

    Hey Chris,

Wow, Thanks for the info. Don't I feel like an idiot. I guess I was looking for the hard way. I guess this proves that I am not just reading from some book. Hopefully, this will be last mistake i make....yeah right.

    Hi,

there is an option, but maby it's not too obvious:

System Options -> Colors -> Use specified color for drawings paper color.

Still, thanks for the info, by replacing the image I can personalize my sheetbackground...
