The first release of the SolidWorks 2008 removed the scroll bars from the graphic area. The development team at SolidWorks decided to remove the scrollbars “as many users requested their removal since they did not use them at all and the just took up graphic space.” As you can imagine, this led to some grumblings from the SolidWorks user community. Their absence was short lived, however. In Service Packet 2.0 the scroll bars made a triumphant return but most users are unaware of this. If you miss your scroll bars and would like them to be enable them once again, look no future then your system options.

First, close all parts and drawings in SolidWorks. Click the Options button from your toolbar. This will launch your System Options – General window.

Select Display/Selection from the menu on the left of the window.

Lastly, enable the Display scrollbars in graphics view option and press OK.

Your scroll bars will now be enabled. To turn off the scroll bars once again follow the same process remembering that you must not have any documents open in SolidWorks.

If there is a problem in SolidWorks, PDMWorks Workgroup or just a modeling or drawing question please contact me.

  • When it SolidWorks Corp going to learn to stop being so absolute when listening to people who want to take away functionality. It's never that they don't want anyone to have the function, its that they don't want it themselves. So anytime they have these kinds of requests, they need to make it an option, not an absolute removal.

The option will be greyed out if you have anything open in SolidWorks. Make sure you close everything before entering the sytem options window. If this doesn't work let me know and I will see what i can find out.

Funny I went to make this change in service pack 3.1 and the option is grayed out and will not allow the change. Any idea what would cause this?
