One of my favorite new features in SolidWorks 2008 is the addition of Shortcut Bars. Shortcut bars are customizable floating bars that pop up in the graphic area near your mouse pointer. By default each environment has its own shortcut bar that you can then customize just like another toolbar. With Shortcut Bars in addition to the CommandManager & Context menus, you should have no need for additional toolbars.

To access the Shortcut bar, ensure that you have nothing select in the graphic area the press S. Below illustrates the four default bars that you can customize.

Parts

Assembly

Drawing

Sketch

I had “s” set to “sketch” when I installed SW2008, and it overrode the shortcut for the shortcut bar.How can I set S back to bring up the shortcut bar.

    Thanks

  • Hi Sumanth,

First, click 'Tools -> Customize' from the pulldown menu. In the 'Customize' window, click the 'Keyboard' tab. Select 'Others' in the 'Category' pull down near the top of the window. Scroll down till you find the 'Command' field labeled 'Shortcut Bar'. In the field to the right, 'Shortcut(s)' , Enter the letter you wish to use for calling up the shortcut bar. Click OK... The command should then be assigned.

If you have any problems, feel free to ask.
