A couple of weeks ago I introduced the Configure Component command in assemblies. In case you missed it, the Configure Component command extends the ability to control the display of components in assemblies in one interface. In one window you can configure a component to be suppressed or unsuppressed in different assembly configurations or you can select which part configuration will be used in each assembly configuration. It is a great time saver that I hope you have found useful. Now I am back to introduce you to the Configure Feature and Configure Dimension commands.

Configure Feature

Just like the Configure Component command the Configure Feature command allows you to make quick configuration changes for a feature in one interface. Think of it as a column from a design table displayed in one easy to use window. To access the Modify Configurations window for a feature, right-click the feature in the FeatureManager and select Configure Feature in the menu.

The Configure Feature command allows you to suppress and unsuppress features in the Modify Configuration Window just like the Configure Component command. Unlike the Configure Component command, you can also modify the dimensions in the Modify Configuration window. When you open the Modify Configuration window you may not have any dimensions listed in the window.

To add configurable elements of a feature such as dimensions to the Modify Configurations window double-click the feature to display the dimensions.

Next, double-click the dimension or dimensions you wish to have configured in the Modify Configurations window.

Once you have the dimension inserted into the Modify Configurations window, you can make the desired modifications to the dimension and click OK.

Configure Dimension

If you wanted to just configure a single dimension, the Configure Dimension command extends this ability. The Configure Dimension command acts just like the Configure Component and Configure Feature commands. Right-click any dimension and select Configure Dimension in the menu.

In the Modify Configurations window make the required dimensional changes and click OK.

If you are familiar with using Design Tables you may notice that the same functions you can perform in a Design Table can be performed in the Modify Configurations window. I hope you will agree that this is a huge time saver when dealing with multiple configurations. I do not feel that the Modify Configurations window will replace a Design Table on more complex parts but for smaller parts and assemblies it is great.
