Hi Wayne,

Check out the post http://www.theswgeek.com/2008/06/27/creating-yo... for the setting that in the system options that can be used to fix this issue. Another technique that some people use is place a space in the column header for QTY right before the text...but I am not a big fan of this. If you have any future questions, please don't hesitate to ask. :)

at first, thank you for your idea, I have two questions for BOM in SW,
1. how can I show the sub-assembly parts in top level assembly drawing BOM, including show the correct consecutive balloon No.? I tried three options in SW 2008 SP4.0, but I can not make it happen.
2. for limited cell space, if the content is too more, I hope I can separate it into more than one rows, but with only one balloon No. do you guys have any idea? thank you very much!

Hi Alex,

As a new user of Solidworks 2008, I've found the information in your blog invaluable. Thanks for all the great tips! I have a question about the procedure for modifying properties in the BOM. You state that

"All of the cells that are linked to the custom properties of a part are now bi-directional."

When I double-click on a cell I am presented with a dialog box that just says :

"The cell value(s) has a nested link to a part or an assembly document and cell edit will not propagate. Manually overriding the value will sever this link. (To restore the link in the future, delete the user-defined text from the cell.)

Continue editing the cell?"

Is there an option or setting I need to enable to allow editing of part properties from the BOM?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Shane
