Can you explain the most effective workflow for producing real time flexible parts in SW (also called rubber banding parts)??

i have a question about the "wrap" feature. However do i use the "wrap" feature to wrap a text onto a surface created by "lofted boss" I was able to use the "wrap" feature onto surfurces like cylinder, but unable to wrap around a cone.

I have created a mechanism with gears and levers. Before creating the animation I need to somehow get the parts to move with one another. So when the lever is moved upwards the gear moves which causes another gear to move and then another lever. Or one gear moves causing another gear and then this makes the lever move does anyone know how to do this in 2008

Hi Mike,

There are two mates you can look into that are both Mechanical Mates: Gear &
Rack Pinion. Unfortunately, I have not had an opportunity write an article
about using these mates yet but someday soon. If you have any questions
about using these mates, I would be more then happy to help out.

I need a little help. I have a drawing, with a tolerance block showing a tolerance for 1 place, 2 place, and 3 place decimals as well as a tolerance for fractional dimensions. The problem is, the overall length of the part is a whole number (21 inches). I always assume I should use the 1 place decimal tolerance (21.0). Is there anything in writing in y14.5, or anywhere else to back this assumption up?

Hi bud,
If you are working in inches, per asme y14.5 section 1.6.2, a dimension is expressed with the same number of decimal places as its tolerance. Zeros are added to the right of the decimal point as necessary. If you are using the general tolerancing in your title block, use the number of zeros needed for your tolerance. If you apply a direct tolerance to the dimension, like a bilateral tolerance, the number has the same number of places as the tol.

Thank you. That does help some. The problem is, the dimension is written as 21. It is not followed by any zeros. Therefore, any zeros I add would dictate the bilateral tolerance (x.x = ±.03, x.xx=±.010, x.xxx=±.005). Obviously, the best thing I could do to save time would be to call my customer. However, if there is a standard, accepted interpretation, I would use that.

I have SW2005 installed on my computer. recently, I tried out a trial version of 2008 and subsequently removed it when the trial period ran out and reverted back to 2005.
I can no longer access the hole wizard or smart fasteners, etc.
The error message: The database file 'C\program files\solidworks data\lang\english\swbrowser.mdb' is not the expected version (9.03)
Can anyone spell out a solution to this?

Hello I need some help creating a part in solidworks which acts like rubber, so it can bend and it can stretch, I need to connect this piece bewteen two solid long pieces so the pieces can experience a change in angular direction as the middle piece bends and compresses

Ok so I'm doing a paper on Chipsets and I need a little help. I have to compare two chipsets one being Intell the other Being AMD. Can someone just help me to understand exactly what I am doing a picture with a circle around the chipsets would help tramendously.

Please can you help.

I recently read your egg splitting article and used some of the principles to create two serrated bars which mesh with one another. I found a problem once I tried to create a drawing of the bars which I had saved out.

In the "master model" I did all the modeling including tapped holes, etc. I then saved out each bar and now tried to create the drawings for each bar. The problem is that when using the hole callout tool in the drawing, the only info that appears is the dia. it seems like when saving out the two solid bodies of the serrated bars that the hole details are lost.

Do you know how to rectify this problem

How does one attach/re-attach a model file to a drawing. For some reason, the drawing references model file(s) it can't find anymore. So, in the FeatureManager design tree the rawing views are blanked and has "X" markings on the drawing for the views being referenced. Does anyone know the solution? Thanks.

I want to hollow out a portion of a complex part to save weight and make room for things. Can the shell feature do this? Various features prevent shelling the whole part.

I considered also making another feature and subtracting that. But the combine feature is greyed out (SW student version 2007). I don't see how to get this to function.

Other methods to remove material from the part? It has 3D geometry that precludes a simple extruded, revolved or swept cut.
